San Marino is one of the smallest republics in the world. It has a surface area of just 60 square kilometres and a population of 42,000. The capital of the same name is located on Mount Titano (755m), which dominates the Romagna plains and was once an excellent lookout post. From this enormous granite rock, you can enjoy a splendid view of the magnificent Apennine landscape and the green valleys of Romagna, which stretch all the way to the Adriatic. The Palazzo del Governo, the Three Towers and the Basilica of San Marino (the saint who the republic is named after) are certainly worth a visit.
