The international hotel chain RIU was founded in Mallorca almost 70 years ago and is still run by the third generation of the Riu family. They began their activities with the San Francisco hotel in Mallorca, and later opened several hotels in the Balearic Islands. In the 1980s, they expanded into the Canary Islands, which remains one of the brand's flagship destinations. Since then, the company has continued to grow and now has 100 hotels in 70 countries.
